The Catholic ministry provides housing, education, and accompaniment for justice impacted men and women.

Thrive for Life Prison Project, a ministry for all people affected by incarceration and detention, presented a special concert at St. Patrick’s Old Cathedral in April during Lent.

Thrive for Life provides shelter and services to the previously incarcerated to give them guidance and help during times when it is needed most.

The New York-based ministry for the incarcerated could bring home a $1 million prize if named the Opus Prize laureate.

This Women’s History Month, the Archdiocese of New York is highlighting the work of Thrive for Life and Sister Katie Sitjay Balbastro, a mentor within the prison project who has spent her life serving marginalized communities.

Fr. Zachariah Presutti, S.J., founder and Executive Director of the Thrive For Life Prison Project, Inc. and a chaplain at Rikers Island, gave the homily during this morning's Mass at St. Patrick’s Cathedral.

Cardinal Dolan’s generous support and collaboration will seed the growth of Thrive For Life’s innovative re-entry model—the Ignacio House of Studies.

"If Our Savior can be born in a stinky, messy place like that, He can certainly be reborn within us," the cardinal said in his homily.
