More than 300 New York City firefighters died in the September 11 terrorist attacks. Nearly a quarter of them lived on Staten Island.

Since 2002, on the vigil of September 11, Catholics in Staten Island gather for an Eve of Solemn Remembrance at the Church of Our Lady of Pity, organized by the University of Notre Dame Alumni Club of Staten Island.

Bishop Peter Byrne, episcopal vicar of Staten Island, celebrated the Mass this year and gave the homily.

July is the month of the Most Precious Blood of Jesus, and begins with the feast of the Most Precious Blood of Jesus on July 1.
