NEW YORK — ArchCare, the Archdiocese of New York’s healthcare system that every day cares for thousands of adults and individuals with special needs, announced the appointment of Dr. Taimur Mirza as ArchCare’s new chief medical officer (CMO), effective May 1, 2024. Dr. Mirza brings extensive experience in patient care, medical education, and healthcare administration, and is set to advance ArchCare’s clinical programs into a new era of excellence and innovation. He succeeds Dr. Walid Michelen, who was critical in navigating ArchCare’s nursing homes through the COVID-19 pandemic and is now retiring.
Dr. Mirza began his medical journey at Gulf Medical University, United Arab Emirates (UAE), where he laid the groundwork for his career. He completed his internship and residency at Mount Sinai from 2011 to 2014, followed by Chief Residency at Metropolitan Hospital, affiliated with New York Medical College. His professional career includes roles such as hospitalist at Metropolitan Hospital, assistant program director of Internal Medicine Residency, and clerkship director of Internal Medicine at New York Medical College. In 2020, Dr. Mirza joined ArchCare at Mary Manning Walsh Nursing Home & Rehabilitation Center as an associate medical director and was promoted to medical director in 2021.

His experience in direct patient care and administration equips him to navigate the complexities of post-acute care, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic.
At ArchCare, Dr. Mirza plans to expand the academic affiliations with partner hospitals in New York to enhance the care provided to all patients served by the organization. His vision for the company’s clinical future includes integrating innovative practices to improve patient outcomes and fostering a culture of continuous improvement and excellence in care delivery.
“I am honored to step into the role of chief medical officer at ArchCare,” said Dr. Mirza. “I look forward to advancing our mission by leveraging innovative medical practices and fostering a collaborative environment. My focus will be on enhancing patient outcomes through cutting-edge technology and evidence-based practices. I am also excited to engage with our community and build strong partnerships to promote health and wellness and expand our academic affiliations. Together, we can ensure ArchCare remains a leader in healthcare excellence.”
