The Marian Shrine in Stony Point hosted its Rise Up Festival this weekend in honor of the Solemnity of the Assumption.
The annual event draws together families and friends from around the area for a day of fun and faith including Mass celebrated by Bishop Edmund Whalen, Auxiliary Bishop of the Archdiocese of New York and vicar for clergy.
Sr. Mechtilde Doherty, OP, spent 71 years as a Dominican Sister of Blauvelt, devoting more than four decades to teaching second grade and CCD before serving her convent community as housekeeping supervisor until she entered eternal life at 89.
