Born on September 2, 1943, Father John E. Fanning entered eternal life on October 10, 2024.

Father Fanning was ordained on December 20, 1968, in Rome, where he completed his studies for the priesthood. He served as parochial vicar at Annunciation Church in Crestwood, then Church of the Guardian Angel in Manhattan, before teaching at Cardinal Hayes High School in The Bronx from 1971-1977.

Father Fanning’s involvement with the Metropolitan Tribunal began in 1979, where he served until 1984. He then became a judge with the Metropolitan Tribunal from 1984-1986. In 1987, he took on the role of administrator at St. James in Milton. Returning to the Metropolitan Tribunal, he served as a judge again from 1988-1992. 

In 1992, Father Fanning took a brief departure from his tribunal duties to teach at St. Joseph’s Regional Seminary in India for six months. Upon his return, he resumed his work with the Metropolitan Tribunal, where he also served as a consultant for priest personnel from 1995-2001. He remained in residence at Our Lady of Victory in Lower Manhattan after 2001. He celebrated his golden jubilee in 2018.
