WHITE PLAINS — Archbishop Stepinac High School announced the launch of its Susan and Daniel P. Mahoney ’67 Business Honors Academy Mentorship Program designed to foster leadership and academic excellence.
The program works to support students through their academic transitions, social development, and personal growth. The new initiative pairs students with mentors, fostering an environment of guidance and leadership to help students thrive both academically and personally.
“The core mission of the Mahoney Business Honors Academy Mentorship Program is to guide students through the challenges of Stepinac’s rigorous academic curriculum while promoting leadership and high standards,” said Rackeal Bellamy, Business Department chair and Academy coordinator. “Mentors are expected to lead by example, providing a valuable resource for their mentees in academic, social, and personal development.”
“The success of this program relies on the active participation, commitment, and enthusiasm of our mentors,” said Frank Portanova ’93, vice principal for academics. “We are placing a special emphasis on leadership and accountability, ensuring that mentors serve as role models and help their mentees navigate the high expectations of the Business Honors Academy.”
Through this mentorship program, mentors will assist their mentees in adjusting to the academy’s demanding curriculum by modeling strong study skills, time management, and course selection. They will also encourage social development by fostering confidence and interpersonal skills, creating a community where students feel empowered to excel.
Mentors themselves will have the opportunity to hone their leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills, which will contribute to their preparation for college and the world ahead.
The mentorship program will be implemented in phases, starting with seniors mentoring juniors. As the year progresses, juniors will transition into leadership roles, mentoring sophomores. This structure creates a continuous cycle of peer support and guidance. Mentors will meet with their mentees bi-weekly to review academic progress, address challenges, and offer personal guidance. As the next trimester approaches, juniors will step into their mentoring roles, sharing their experiences with sophomores.
Archbishop Stepinac High School’s Mahoney Business Honors Academy Mentorship Program is committed to helping students build strong peer connections, develop key leadership skills, and achieve academic success.
