Sister Lydia Marie entered eternal life peacefully on Tuesday, December 24, 2024, at White Plains Hospital in White Plains.

Sister entered the Sisters of St. John the Baptist at her hometown in Virac, Catanduanes, Philippines, on January 4, 1987, then proceeded to Rome, Italy, for her postulancy and came to the United States to continue her formation in January 1988. Sister was received on February 18, 1989. She made her first profession on March 16, 1991, at Providence Rest, Bronx, and her perpetual profession on August 16, 1995, in St. Lucy’s Parish, Newark, New Jersey.

On November 11, 1995, she became an American citizen.

Sister Lydia Marie loved sewing, singing, and dancing. Her gift of music was a delight and she shared it generously, especially during many liturgies and karaoke social hours.

Due to medical reasons, she was advised to take respite in Mount St. John Convent in Purchase on December 12, 2024. Her health and spirit improved there, but God called her to come to him to rest peacefully on Tuesday, December 24, 2024.

Sister Lydia Marie is survived by her sister Merly Morales and other siblings, nieces, and nephews in the Philippines and around the world. Her close first cousin Armelita Novenario and family in New Jersey and children, and her friend Lisa Holland and family in Fishkill.

We will miss you Sister Lydia Marie and thank you for the life you lived to the full each day.

The Mass of Resurrection was held on Friday, December 27, 2024, at Providence Rest Convent Chapel, Bronx. It was celebrated by the Rev. Augustus Nwubiko from St. Mary of the Sea Parish, City Island. On the same day, Sister was interred at the Gate of Heaven Cemetery in Hawthorne.

We are meant to do more than praise Jesus on good days. We are called to commit to Him in faith, as He gives Himself fully to us.
