Black History Month Started in the Archdiocese with a Mass at St. Joseph and St. Boniface Church

On February 2, the Black Catholic community of the Archdiocese of New York celebrated Black History Month at St. Joseph and St. Boniface Church in Spring Valley with the first Mass of Black History Month, which also honored National Day of Prayer for the African American and African Family

During his Wednesday General Audience, Pope Leo XIV explored sacred music in the liturgy, praising it for giving voice to prayer and expressing the faith.

Sr. Mary Liegey, SC, entered eternal life on Aug. 7, 2026, in her 76th year as a Sister of Charity of New York. Sr. Mary's 41 years of active ministry were dedicated to education: 37 in elementary and four in parish religious education.

Sister Mary O'Brien, SC, entered eternal life on Aug. 16, 2026, in her 76th year as a Sister of Charity of New York. She devoted 38 years to teaching, from elementary classrooms in Manhattan and the Bronx to high schools in the Bahamas and Rye.
