Obituary: Father Salvatore Riccardi

Father Riccardi served in the Bronx and Yonkers
Father Salvatore Riccardi, CP, a Passionist priest of the St. Paul of the Cross Province of the Congregation of the Passion of Jesus Christ, died Jan. 4 at the White Plains Hospital Center in Yonkers. He was 87.
Father Riccardi was a parochial vicar at Annunciation parish in Yonkers, from 1992 to 2000. He served as associate retreat director at the Cardinal Spellman Retreat Center in the Riverdale area of the Bronx, from 1991 to 1992. He was appointed parochial vicar in 2010 at Annunciation-Fatima Parish in Yonkers where he ministered until his death.
He also served in various pastoral capacities in Queens, Brentwood, New Jersey, Connecticut, West Virginia, Massachusetts, and Toronto.
He was associate editor from 1978-1981 for The Sign, a monthly magazine published by the Passionist Fathers and Brothers in Union City, NJ. In 2005, Father Riccardi moved to St. Ann’s Monastery in Scranton, Pa. where he served in the Passionist television ministries until 2006 when he joined the Passionist Retreat team at Bishop Molloy Retreat Center in Queens.
A native of Manhattan, Father Riccardi entered the Passionist novitiate and professed his initial vows in 1955. After completing studies in philosophy and theology at various Passionist monasteries, he professed his final vows in 1958. He was ordained to the priesthood in 1962. Fr. Riccardi is survived by his brother Emil, and nieces and nephews.
A parish Requiem Mass will be offered at 7 p.m., Jan. 9 at Church of the Assumption in the Crestwood area of Yonkers. A funeral Mass will be offered at 10:30 a.m., Jan. 10 at the Monastery Church of the Immaculate Conception in Jamaica, Queens. Burial will be at Immaculate Conception Monastery.
