The date for the World Day of the Sick (Feb. 11) was chosen by Pope St. John Paul II because it is the feast day of Our Lady of Lourdes. The Virgin Mary appeared to Bernadette Soubirous in Lourdes, France 18 times in 1858. The apparition site is known for the many miraculous healings that have taken place there (70 confirmed so far) and is visited by millions each year.

The Catholic Faith Network looks at a documentary about the Sanctuary of Our Lady of Lourdes and talks to the President of the Lourdes Office of Medical Observations about how they investigate miraculous healings.

El 16 de julio se celebra la festividad de la Virgen del Carmen o Santa María del Monte Carmelo, que conmemora la entrega del escapulario y su especial protección, un evento que es celebrado por muchos devotos en todo el mundo.
