Cardinal Dolan’s Second Sunday of Lent Homily: March 5, 2023

| 03/5/2023

By: Cardinal Timothy M. Dolan

In today’s homily, Cardinal Dolan discusses wakes and funerals.

They are sad events, but there are usually photos displayed of the deceased during happy and joyful times.

Cardinal Dolan says that’s kind of what Jesus had in mind at the Transfiguration in today’s Gospel. Jesus knew He would be killed soon.

However, in that time of sorrow and loss, He wanted His followers to remember the joy of the Transfiguration. Jesus knows that life is a mixture of joy and sorrow, life and death and He is there for us for both.

Although no major curial appointments or announcements have been made, one person who had a chance to know then-Cardinal Robert F. Prevost during the Synod on Synodality said the new pope takes his time and listens before speaking or taking concrete action.

In it, he reflects on the feast of Pentecost that we celebrate today. He reminds us that we cannot have Christ without His Church.
