Permanent Deacon Charles Thomas Borsavage entered eternal life on March 13, 2023, at age 91.

Born September 13, 1931, in Wilkes Barre, PA, to Charles E. and Julia Borsavage.  Chuck was predeceased by his parents, younger brother Bernard, and the love of his life, his wife, Barbara Braymer Borsavage.  Barb and Chuck were married on May 30, 1953, and enjoyed over 60 wonderful years together.  Barbara peacefully left this world in 2016.  They are survived by their nine children: Kim, Chuck, Alfred and his wife Anne, Mary and her husband Curtis, Kathryn, Patricia, John, Barbara and her husband Pat, and Kristin and her husband Dan.  Additionally, they were blessed with 30 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren to date.  Also surviving him are Chuck’s two sisters, Barbara Pichette and her husband Bill of Brackney, PA, and Janet Kerth and her husband Greg of Barker, NY, along with many nieces and nephews. 

He revered his family, country, and God in so many ways.

He regaled his children with true and fanciful stories, and he quizzed them based on his extensive knowledge of history. He will always be remembered for his pursuit of family connections via genealogical research, his love of Polish food, and especially for his love of basketball, golf, and baseball.

Corporal Borsavage was assigned to the U.S Army’s 771 Special Troops in Heidelberg, Germany from 1952-54. He was a standout basketball player in high school while attending Broome Tech, and was a member of the USO basketball team in Germany. After serving in Germany, he was awarded a basketball scholarship at Hartwick College in Oneonta, New York.  He received a B.S. degree in business from Hartwick and was the first in his family to graduate from college.

After graduating college, Chuck began a successful career at IBM where he worked for over 35 years.  During his career with IBM, he moved his family from various places in New York and Vermont, and finally settled for good in Carmel, N.Y. in 1976.  He retired from IBM at the age of 58, to formalize his devotion to God and the Roman Catholic Church in several different capacities.

Chuck was ordained as a Deacon in the Roman Catholic church on November 23, 1991, at Saint Patrick’s Cathedral in New York City.  He worked for the archdiocese of Southern New York, and St. James the Apostle church, in Carmel, NY.  At St. James, he was instrumental in assisting the parish in several capital campaigns that included renovating the parish school and the building of the Chapel of Life.  Deacon Chuck literally baptized thousands of babies, married hundreds of couples, and performed countless other sacraments in his role as Deacon.

His devotion to his family and our Lord carried him through all the days of his life.
