Cardinal Dolan Blesses New Catholic Charities Day Laborer Center in Yonkers

His Eminence Cardinal Dolan blessed the new Catholic Charities Community Services (CCCS) Day Laborer Center in Yonkers on Monday. Speaking with Yonkers Mayor Mike Spano at the event, His Eminence and the Mayor emphasized the need to help day laborers get what they need in order to work and take care of their families.

According to the CCCS website, they work “in partnership with the Day Laborers to provide educational workshops, leadership training, and opportunities for economic empowerment. Some programs teach OSHA-approved, on-the-job safety classes and skills classes in knitting, sewing and other occupations. Services may also include English as a Second Language, G.E.D. and literacy classes, immigration legal assistance, recovery of lost wages and emergency help with social services. a hub for day laborers to take life skills classes and find training for future jobs.”

The cathedral is breaking visitor records, with its rector confirming to OSV News that "The number of visitors is increasing day by day."
