Monsignor Zammit served as a New York Police Department Catholic chaplain from 1987 to 2006.

Reverend Monsignor Joseph J. Zammit entered eternal life on August 1, 2023.

Born October 8, 1931, Monsignor Zammit was ordained as a priest on June 2, 1956. He served at the Bronx Municipal Hospital as associate chaplain from 1956 to 1961, and again as assistant chaplain, from 1970 to 1986. He served as parochial vicar at Sacred Heart, Suffern, from 1961 to 1970. He was a parochial vicar at St. Joseph’s, Bronxville, from 1986-1987, and at St. Stephen’s, Manhattan, 1987-2006. 

From 1987-2006, Monsignor Zammit served as a Catholic chaplain for the New York Police Department and later served as a senior priest with the NYPD. His period of service included the aftermath of September 11, 2001. He was named a monsignor in 1990. He also served as a senior priest at St. Joseph’s Chapel in Manhattan from 2009, where he retired in residence in July 2010.

Father O'Shaughnessy entered eternal life on December 2, 2024. From 1978 until his retirement, he served as a faculty member at Cardinal Spellman High School.
