Sister Lois Marie Darold, C.S.JB., was born in the Bronx in 1941 and took her final vows in 1959.

Sister Lois Marie Darold, C.S.JB., passed to her eternal reward on July 30, 2023, very peacefully, in the company of the Sisters, after a lengthy illness.

Sister Lois, the daughter of the late Joseph and Julia Darold was born on Oct. 8, 1941 in the Bronx, New York. When she was a child, her family moved to North Plainfield, New Jersey. She is survived by her brother Joseph Darold of Plainfield, New Jersey. Sister Lois is also survived by members of the Russo, Catanzaro, Small, Kinnamont, and Herowanto families; whom she considered family for a great portion of her life.

Sister Lois entered the Sisters of Saint John the Baptist in 1959 at Immaculate Heart Novitiate, in Glen Cove. During her religious life, Sister Lois earned degrees in secondary education (English), pastoral counseling, along with being a certified as a school administrator.

Sister Lois’s gifts have been shared with so many in the following educational facilities: St. Lucy, Newark, New Jersey, St. Bernard, Plainfield, New Jersey, and St. John Villa Academy, Staten Island. In addition to her gifts as a dedicated teacher, she also excelled in the area of Administration. St. John Villa Academy students were the recipients of Sister Lois’s leadership as a guidance counselor and then as principal for seventeen years. Sister encouraged each of her students to be the best they could be using the talents God gave them, to the best of their ability.

Sister Lois also served her religious family in many capacities. In general governance, Sister served as a delegate for general chapters, assisting in the writing of our constitutions and statutes.  On the provincial level, Sister Lois was director of formation. She has served as a provincial councilor, was the first director of development for the American Province, also serving as local superior and executive director of St. John Villa Academy.

Sister Lois’s legacy encompasses her spiritual depth, her enthusiasm for education, her clarity of expression for the spoken and written word, and her welcoming and congenial presence to all with whom she came in contact.

Throughout her illness Sister Lois continued to show patience, perseverance, and faithfulness to God and to all those she loved.

He reminds us to not be inflated with pride. Everything we have is because God gave it to us. Our experience with life should be one of gratitude
