Dr. Peter Kreeft, professor of Philosophy at Boston College and author of nearly 100 books, will be among speakers at the New York State Eucharistic Congress, scheduled for Oct. 20-22 at the Shrine of Our Lady of Martyrs in Auriesville.   

Dr. Kreeft’s many bestsellers cover a vast array of topics in spirituality, theology, and philosophy; they include “Making Sense Out of Suffering,” “Because God Is Real: Sixteen Questions, One Answer,” “Angels and Demons: What Do We Really Know About Them?,” “Heaven: The Heart’s Deepest Longing,” “Summa of the Summa (on St. Thomas Aquinas’ Summa Theologica),” “Christianity for Modern Pagans: Pascal’s Pensées,” and “How to Destroy Western Civilization: And Other Ideas from the Cultural Abyss.” 

The title of his talk will be: “The Eucharist as the Remedy and Response to Secularism.”

“I was persuaded to participate (in the Eucharistic Congress) by the fact that my son in law, who is part Native American, works at the Kateri shrine, and he and my daughter named their daughter Kateri, and I have a first-class relic of her,” Dr. Kreeft told The Good Newsroom. 

He also noted that he has always had a fascination with the Eucharist, “which more than any other single Catholic item brought me from Protestantism to Catholicism. My topic will be simply  the radical consequences of the Real Presence.”     

On his website, Dr. Kreeft cites St. Augustine, noting in part: 

“Augustine tells of a vision of seeing a little boy at a beach scooping up the ocean thimbleful by thimbleful and emptying it out on the sand. Then he sees an angel who tells him that this boy will have emptied out the entire ocean long before Augustine has exhausted what can be said about God. This site’s featured writings and featured audio about the ocean of God’s love are only a few thimblefuls. No—less. For God’s love is literally infinite. It is the shoreless sea we are destined to swim in, surf in, and grow in forever.”

Dr. Peter Kreeft loves his five grandchildren, four children, one wife, one cat, and one God. He earned an A.B. from Calvin College (Grand Rapids, MI., 1959), an M.A. in philosophy (1961) and a Ph.D. in philosophy (1965) from Fordham University.
