Before today’s weekly general audience in St. Peter’s Square, Pope Francis met with two delegations: one of relatives of Israeli hostages in Gaza and another of families of Palestinian prisoners in Israel.

Reflecting on these meetings, the Pope told the crowds present for today’s audience that he heard how both sides are suffering, adding “wars do that.”

“But here we have gone beyond wars,” he added. “This is not war. This is terrorism.”
