Celebrating the 492nd year since the apparitions of Our Lady of Guadalupe, the Archdiocese of New York will celebrate the Traditional Mañanitas on December 11, 2023, followed by the celebration of Mass on December 12 at Saint Patrick’s Cathedral.

The 2023 pilgrimage of the statues of Our Lady of Guadalupe and Saint Juan Diego to over 25 parishes from January 2023 through November 2023 has served as a spiritual preparation for the faithful with novenas and tributes leading up to the Feast Day.

Saint Patrick’s Cathedral will host the “Traditional Mañanitas” on December 11, 2023 at 7:00 p.m. featuring mariachis, indigenous Aztec dancers, and a children’s mariachi sponsored by Casa Puebla, Inc. Accompanying the faithful will be Monsignor Diego Monroy, Rector Emeritus of the Basilica of Our Lady of Guadalupe in Mexico, and Mr. Jaime Lucero, President of Casa Puebla, Inc.

On December 12, 2023, the celebration will begin at 7:00 a.m. with a procession leaving the parish of Our Lady of Guadalupe (14th Street and 8th Avenue) and arriving at St. Patrick’s Cathedral at 9:45 a.m. His Eminence, Timothy Cardinal Dolan, the Archbishop of New York will celebrate the Feast Day Mass at 10:00 a.m. The homilist will be Bishop Carlos Samaniego Lopez, Auxiliary Bishop of the Primate Archdiocese of Mexico.

The images are a remembrance of the apparitions of the Virgin Mary to Saint Juan Diego on the hill of Tepeyac, Mexico in December 1531, where the miraculous image of Our Lady of Guadalupe appeared on the tilma of Saint Juan Diego 492 years ago. As the icon of the pro-life movement, Our Lady of Guadalupe is a global symbol of hope, peace, and compassion.  The celebrations also commemorate the first anniversary of the enthronement of the images at Saint Patrick’s Cathedral gifted by the bishops of the Episcopal Conference in Mexico.
