Bishop Joseph Espaillat, Auxiliary Bishop of New York, was honored by the New York Dominican Officers Organization on Feb. 27 at their Dominican Independence Day event at NYPD Headquarters in Manhattan.
Hundreds of Dominican officers serving in the NYPD gathered to celebrate their heritage and to confer awards on Dominican officers and members of the community.
Special recognition went to Bishop Espaillat, the first Dominican-born auxiliary bishop of the Archdiocese of New York. Not to mention the youngest Catholic bishop in the United States.
The pair become the sixth and seventh senior players, respectively, to move on to the university level.
