Hawthorne Dominicans Thrilled Their Foundress Declared ‘Venerable’ by Pope Francis

On March 14 Pope Francis approved a decree recognizing the heroic virtues of Rose Hawthorne, a convert to the Catholic faith who founded the Dominican Sisters of Hawthorne.

We went to the order’s motherhouse to get their reaction to the news that their Foundress is one step closer to being a saint!

After 48 years of teaching, Sister Ann Jerome moved to Rochelle Park, New Jersey, where she had anticipated retirement, but instead became a permanent substitute teacher and volunteered with parish organizations.
