Today is the feast of the first American-born citizen to be canonized as a Saint, St. Elizabeth Ann Seton.

Raised an Anglican, she converted to Catholicism later in life at the Church of St. Peter on Barclay Street in the Archdiocese of New York.

"To know how to communicate displays great wisdom," the pope said in brief remarks during an audience in the Paul VI Audience Hall on January 25.
