He also discusses the courage of Archbishop John Hughes, the first Archbishop of New York, who raised up and defended Irish immigrants in New York.
The Catholic Church has continued this tradition of welcoming immigrants and refugees to this day.
In 2025 the date coincides on the West's Gregorian calendar and the East's Julian calendar.
