Women pray during eucharistic adoration at St. Matthew Church in Dix Hills, on December 8, 2022. The service was celebrated in observance of the 33rd annual National Night of Prayer for Life, a four-hour vigil that begins at 9 p.m. Dec. 8, the feast of the Immaculate Conception, and ends Dec. 9, the day in 1531 when Our Lady of Guadalupe, patroness of the unborn, first appeared to St. Juan Diego in Mexico. It was on the Feast of the Immaculate Conception (then celebrated on December 9) in 1531 that Our Lady of Guadalupe, Patroness of the unborn and of the Americas, first appeared to St. Juan Diego, whose feast day is December 9. The National Night of Prayer for Life bridges these two feasts to honor Our Blessed Mother and to pray for the Lord’s mercy and restore life, liberty, faith, and peace.

The Annual National Night of Prayer for Life begins at 9 p.m. on December 8 to 1:00 a.m. on December 9. During the Hour of Unity, 12 a.m. – 1 a.m. EST, the archdiocese will be united with churches across the country in prayer.
