In the heart of Lower Manhattan, young Catholics gathered at the Basilica of Saint Patrick’s Old Cathedral for “Love & Responsibility,” a summer series aimed at rediscovering the true meaning of love and relationships. The featured speaker, theologian and author Dr. Edward Sri, drew from the writings of Saint John Paul II to challenge modern misconceptions about love, sexuality, and commitment.
“This message is so important today because every human heart is looking for love, intimacy, union, and communion,” said Colin Nykaza, Director of Evangelization at Saint Patrick’s Cathedral. “We just need to hear the ‘why’ behind the ‘what’ the Church teaches.”
The evening included live music, fellowship, and a powerful talk that resonated with many in the audience. Dr. Sri reminded attendees that love isn’t just about emotions or attraction, but about willing the good of another and living self-gift.
Launched over a decade ago, “Love & Responsibility ” was originally inspired by Sri’s book “Men, Women and the Mystery of Love.” The series continues to offer a space for young adults to reflect on authentic love, guided by timeless Catholic teaching in a modern context.
