Blessing of the Food: Holy Saturday at Saint John the Evangelist With Cardinal Dolan

On Holy Saturday, dozens of parishioners of Saint John the Evangelist in Mahopac brought in Easter baskets full of food to be blessed by His Eminence, Timothy Cardinal Dolan.
Father Kurpios, the presiding pastor at Saint John’s, explained that the blessing of the Easter food is an ancient Eastern European Holy Saturday tradition.
Sister Elena entered eternal life on April 19, 2025. In 2006, she received the medal of honor from the Archdiocese of New York for over 25 years of service in Religious Education, as well as the Terence Cardinal Cooke Award.
