
Can Science Explain the Star of Bethlehem?

The Star of Bethlehem, according to St. Matthew’s Gospel, appeared in the sky when Christ was born, inspiring the Wise Men from the East to travel to Jerusalem.
There, they meet King Herod and ask him: “Where is He who has been born King of the Jews?
For we have seen His star in the East and have come to worship Him.”2000 years later and we still ponder the star”. We stop and wonder, can science explain what the Wise Men saw on that miraculous night? Was the star of Bethlehem a scientific phenomenon?
We spoke with Dr. Jonathan Lunine, Professor of Astronomy at Cornell University, to find out.
Jesus calls on all of us to be perfect, but perfection is impossible to achieve. Today Cardinal Dolan looks at how we can reconcile those two things.
