Cardinal Dolan Hosts Head of Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church

Cardinal Dolan welcomed Major Archbishop Sviatoslav Shevchuk and the Permanent Synod of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church to the Archdiocese of New York’s offices on First Avenue on Friday and hosted the group for a special luncheon.

Bishop Whalen, Bishop Espaillat, and Monsignor LaMorte were present along with Archbishop Gabriele Caccia, the Permanent Observer of the Holy See’s Mission to the United Nations, and Monsignor Peter Vaccari of the Catholic Near East Welfare Association.

Major Archbishop Sviatoslav Shevchuk was accompanied by the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Archbishop of Philadelphia, Archbishop Borys Gudziak, along with the Bishop of the Wroclaw-Gdansk Eparchy Volodymyr (Włodzimierz) Juszczak, Apostolic Exarch in Germany, and Scandinavia Bohdan Dzyurakh, Bishop of Chernivtsi Eparchy Yosafat Moshchych, Auxiliary Bishop of Kyiv Archeparchy Andriy Khimyak.

Cardinal Dolan has invited Major Archbishop Shevchuk to give the homily at the 10:15 a.m. Mass at St. Patrick’s Cathedral on Sunday, March 10.
