Cardinal Dolan on US Bishops’ Call for Act of Reparation on Solemnity of Sacred Heart
By: Cardinal Timothy M. Dolan
On this week’s “Conversation with Cardinal Dolan,” His Eminence tells Fr. Dave Dwyer why the US Bishops have joined together to call for an act of reparation this year on the Feast of the Sacred Heart of Jesus (June 16), “with the intention of repairing the spiritual damage inflicted by sin.”
Cardinal Dolan is one of the signatories of the statement released by the USCCB on June 12 calling on Catholics to pray the Litany of the Sacred Heart on Friday, and to make an act of reparation“for the blasphemies against our Lord we see in our culture today.”
“This year, on June 16—the day of the Solemnity of the Sacred Heart of Jesus—a professional baseball team has shockingly chosen to honor a group whose lewdness and vulgarity in mocking our Lord, His Mother, and consecrated women cannot be overstated,” the statement read.“This is not just offensive and painful to Christians everywhere; it is blasphemy.”
Cardinal Dolan tells Fr. Dwyer that this statement and call to prayer is in response to the LA Dodgers’ decision to honor an anti-Catholic group known as the “Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence” at the team’s June 16 Pride Night.
