Catholic Sisters Week: Meet Sister Margaret Oettinger, OP

For Catholic Sisters Week, we are highlighting some of the amazing women religious in the Archdiocese of New York! Meet Sister Margaret Oettinger, O.P., a member of the Congregation of the Dominican Sisters of Sparkill, NY (Rockland County).

She was a missionary in Pakistan for several years.

Sr. Margaret has served as part of the Dominican Order Chaplaincy Team for many years and is currently a Chaplain at Hospital for Special Surgery here in Manhattan.

Sr. Margaret was born in Manhattan and, growing up, attended Catholic elementary school and St. Jean Baptiste High School, both in Manhattan.

Sister Patricia Howell, OP, entered eternal life on December 29, 2025. Sister Pat's most enduring legacy is her 24-year commitment to St. Luke's School in the Bronx, where she served as a teacher and then as principal for 19 years.

Monsignor Gorman entered eternal life on December 30, 2025. Fluent in Spanish, he ministered in Manhattan, Venezuela, Chester, and Sleepy Hollow, advocating tirelessly for the poor and unborn until his retirement in 2009.
