One long day of games took the field of eight down to a semi-final field of four, as the Catholic High School Athletics Association boys’ basketball “AA” intersectional playoffs continued.

In the first game, Christ The King High School of Middle Village never trailed Bishop Loughlin Memorial High School of Brookyn, leading 11-4 after the first quarter, and 29-20 at the half. That lead only extended in the third and fourth quarters, for a final of 76-55.

The second matchup saw Archbishop Stepinac High School of White Plains take on Archbishop Molloy High School of Queens. The first half saw Stepinac in control, leading 35-27 at the break. But Molloy tied the score at the end of three before Stepinac ultimately triumphed 56-52 for the win. For Stepinac, Boogie Fland had 17 points, four steals, three rebounds, two assists, and two blocks. Jasiah Jervis scored 12 points and seven rebounds. Jordan Gabriel contributed seven points.

Game three saw Iona Preparatory School matched up against St. Francis Preparatory School. St. Francis was clearly the better prepped of the two, leading 33-29 at the half, on their way to a 75-54 win, led by freshman Oesoemana Sacko, who scored 26 points with 10 rebounds.

The day’s final game saw Cardinal Hayes High School of the Bronx face St. Peter’s Boys High School of Staten Island. Hayes jumped out to an 18-9 lead after the first quarter, which narrowed to 31-27 at the half. After three, Hayes still led by four, 44-40, and the Bronx team kept St. Peter’s at a four-point arms-length to the end, winning 58-54.

With the wins, St. Francis Prep will face Cardinal Hayes on Wednesday, March 8 at 6pm, followed by Christ The King vs. Archbishop Stepinac at 8 pm.

Sunday’s games were played at Fordham University. Wednesday’s semi-finals and Sunday, March 12’s finals will both be at St. John’s University in Queens. Tickets are $10, $5 for students with ID.
