Matthew 5:13-16 “You are the light of the world…your light must shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your heavenly Father.”
The Good NewsroomTM launched 10 weeks ago. Since that time, we have had tens of thousands of visitors to our website and our social media channels. Many have expressed interest in our e-newsletter, and hundreds of people have signed up for our app that we announced less than seven days ago. The newsroom is still new, but the story we are telling has a long tradition. Our goal is to shine a light on the positive aspects of the Catholic Church and to share that information as broadly as possible. And we are not the only media organization in the business of this work. Last week, many organizations submitted applications for the Catholic Media Association annual awards. I was very pleased to submit on behalf of the Archdiocese of New York several entries that get at the heart of the mission of The Good Newsroom, telling the story of the positive contributions of the charitable, educational, healthcare, and parish work of the archdiocese.
This morning’s gospel reading reminded me of the importance of The Good Newsroom. I hope you will join us in spreading the good news of the Church by sharing our stories with your networks, and by letting people know about our website, social media channels, and app. It is in this way we – together – are the light of the world, and we allow the good deeds of the Church to be known and seen.
