Representing Nepal, he set a new national record in the 100-meter freestyle but did not advance

Fordham University psychology major Alexander Shah set a new national swimming record at the Paris Olympics on Tuesday, but his time was not fast enough to qualify and advance.
Competing in the 100-meter freestyle, Shah set a new Nepal national record with a time of 51.91 seconds, finishing third in the third heat. However, only the 16 fastest times from all 10 heats advance to the event’s semi-finals. Shah’s time placed him 44th overall.
His time Tuesday broke his own Nepal national record of 52.71 seconds, set at the 2024 World Aquatics Championships in Qatar. Shah previously represented Nepal at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, held in 2021, where he placed 59th overall in the 100-meter freestyle.
At Fordham, Shah co-captained the Rams’ men’s swim team, which achieved an 8-1 dual-meet record, according to Fordham Sports‘ website.
