In his homily from this morning’s Mass at Saint Patrick’s Cathedral, Fr. Enrique Salvo points out that to follow Jesus’ commandment not to be afraid is an active choice. We have to choose to trust in God and His divine plan, wherever that takes us. St. Benedict, whose feast we celebrate today, trusted in God and became the founder of monasticism. In a time of darkness, monastaries preserved knowledge and became beacons of light. Everything that came from them exists because St. Benedict trusted God.
