On September 11, the Golf FORE Catholic Schools Ladies Professional Golfers Association (LPGA) Pro-Am Tournament will be held at Siwanoy Country Club (Siwanoy CC) in Bronxsville. All proceeds from this fundraiser will help fund scholarships that enable children in low-income families to receive an education at a Catholic School in the Archdiocese of New York through the Inner-City Scholarship Fund.
The event will include 112 golfers and 28 LPGA players who will compete in a “scrambles” where the “fivesome” (four amateurs plus the lady pro) play the best ball on each shot from tee to green. The day starts with a Brunch at 9:30 a.m., followed by a shotgun start at 11 a.m. and a reception and awards ceremony following play.
Cardinal Timothy Dolan and Sister Mary Grace Walsh, the new Superintendent of Schools, will be on hand to extend their appreciation to those who have generously contributed to the event. Former Yankee great Tino Martinez will be playing in the event. This year’s Presenting Sponsor is Cap Trust.
The event has been in existence for over 40 years and is used to support Instructional TV (ITV). Over the many years of its rich history, New York sports celebrities have played in the event including Yankee legends Joe DiMaggio, Phil Rizzuto, and owner George Steinbrenner along with TV and film celebrities like Danny Thomas and George C. Scott.
Siwanoy CC’s heritage dating back to its establishment in 1901. Constriction of the current course began in 1913 under the supervision of famed golf course architect, Donald Ross. Siwanoy was host to the first PGA Championship in 1916 and has hosted many other tournaments including the New York State Amateur, the Metropolitan Open, and the Westchester Open.
While this year’s event is sold out, donations are still being accepted and can be made by contacting Emily Cafaro.
