The Archdiocese of New York’s Cultural Diversity Apostolate will celebrate Black History Month with a “Pilgrimage of Courageous Hope” by having a Mass celebrating Black History at different parishes every Sunday in February.

Leah Dixon, Coordinator, says the Black Catholic Clergy & Religious worked to plan these Sunday pilgrimages to different parishes for the Jubilee Holy Year. Pope Francis designated 2025 a Jubilee Holy Year for us to renew ourselves as “Pilgrims of Hope,” so in this spirit, all are invited to join this pilgrimage throughout Black History Month.

Hundreds are expected at Mass this Sunday, February 2, at the Church of St. Joseph and St. Boniface in Spring Valley to mark the 36th year of celebrating the National Day of Prayer for the African American and African Families, founded by Father Jim Goode, OFM in 1989. Father Levelt Germain, Pastor of St. Joseph and St. Boniface, has invited Father Kareem Smith to serve as the principal celebrant of the Mass. Father Smith is the current pastor of St. Michael the Archangel Church in the Bronx and the President of the National Black Catholic Clergy Caucus.

Join the “Pilgrimage of Courageous Hope” in celebration of Black History Month. All are welcome!
