Today is the feast of Basil and Gregory. We have a gospel reading about John the Baptist. One of the great things about John the Baptist was that he knew his limitations. He wasn’t going to take credit for anything that belonged to his cousin, Jesus, the Savior of the World. John was sent by God to be a witness to the Messiah; that was his role. John pointed the way to Jesus.
It’s a reminder that whatever gifts we have, whatever our calling might be, we need to do as John the Baptist did, and in our life, point the way to Jesus Christ.
