Deacon Marino served Immaculate Conception parish for 42 years and taught in Clarkstown schools for nearly four decades

Permanent Deacon Philip A. Marino, a beloved educator, public servant, and Catholic deacon who dedicated his life to his faith, family, and community, entered eternal life on April 14, 2026, surrounded by loved ones. He was 79.

Deacon Marino was born July 8, 1946, in the Bronx, to Frank and Olga Marino. He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Patricia Ann Marino; his children, Karan Cigna (spouse Ed Cigna), Philip Marino, and David Marino (spouse Heather Marino); his grandchildren, Eddie, Owen, and Liam Cigna and Olivia Marino, who called him “Poppy”; and his sister, Terry Siciliano. He was predeceased by his brother, Thomas Marino.

Deacon Marino embodied servant leadership across multiple decades of public life. He taught school for 38 years, including 33 years in the Clarkstown Central School District, and served two terms as Town Supervisor of Stony Point.

A life of service to faith and community.

Ordained a Catholic deacon on May 19, 1984, Deacon Marino faithfully served the Church of the Immaculate Conception in Stony Point for 42 years. He also served as fire chaplain to the Wayne Hose Volunteer Fire Department of Stony Point and was an active member of the Rockland County Critical Incident Stress Management Team.

His commitment to young people extended to the athletic field, where he coached football and baseball and served as a Little League umpire. In retirement, Deacon Marino and his wife volunteered at the Immaculate Conception Food Pantry, continuing to serve the needs of their community.

In his free time, Deacon Marino enjoyed golf, fishing, and traveling, and was an avid New York Rangers fan.

A wake was held April 17, 2026, at the Edward C. Finn Funeral Home, 43 East Main St., Stony Point. The Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated April 18, 2026, at the Church of the Immaculate Conception, 26 John St., Stony Point, with the Rev. Herbert T. DeGaris, pastor, serving as celebrant and homilist. Interment followed at Saint Peter Cemetery in Haverstraw.

In lieu of flowers, the family requested donations to World Central Kitchen, Mercy Ships, or the Immaculate Conception Food Pantry, where checks and cash are accepted at the parish rectory.
