Reverend Father John A. Pinterbone entered eternal life on September 27, 2023.

Reverend Father John Anthony Pinterbone, KHS Canon Pinterbone, was born in Jersey City, New Jersey, on September 21, 1949, to Lillian McDermott Pinterbone and Anthony Pinterbone.

He was raised in Hudson County, Union City, New Jersey, where he attended Holy Family Schools, and first encountered his beloved Franciscan Missionary Sisters of the Sacred Heart from Peekskill.

He later went on to obtain a Bachelor of Science in Political Science at Saint Peter’s University, Jersey City, and Master’s of Education at the University of Virginia, a Master’s of School Administration at Saint Peter’s University, Jersey City, and a Master’s of Church History, at Seton Hall University in South Orange, New Jersey. He was a Ph.D. candidate in Church History at The Catholic University of America, Washington, DC.

He was ordained for the Diocese of Arlington, Virginia, May 12, 1979, and was an assistant to Bishop Thomas Welsh, Bishop of Arlington, Virginia.

He taught political science and church history at Holy Rosary High School, Union City, New Jersey; at Our Lady of the Valley, Orange, New Jersey; at Bishop Denis O’Connell High School, Arlington, Virginia; and at Saint Joseph by the Sea High School, Staten Island.

Father Pinterbone was pastor of Assumption Church, New Brighton, Staten Island, and Saint Stanislaw Kostka Church, Staten Island. He was a Canon of the Archdiocese of Lublin, Poland, and the Diocese of Patti, Sicily, Italy.  Most recently, Father Pinterbone was a weekend assistant at the Church of Saint Pius X, Forked River.

“The most rewarding thing I have done in my life was to teach for 21 years in a Catholic School and to have been a product of the golden age of Catholic Schools and Catholicism with the Franciscan Sisters and Jesuit priests in the 50s and 60s. Praise be Jesus Christ.”

Surviving is his friend, Christopher Linnell, of Forked River.
