Obituary: Reverend Monsignor Guy S. Vinci

Monsignor Vinci was a former parochial vicar of the Church of St. Joseph in Bronxville, and a former chaplain of the New York City Fire Department

The Reverend Monsignor Guy S. Vinci entered eternal life on July 6, 2023, age 91. 

Born on September 8, 1931 in the Bronx, the loving son of the late Carlo and Frances Vinci, dear brother of Alba Goebel, Marie Baris and the late Celia Baris, he was affectionately known as Fr. Gu by his parishioners. He was ordained at St. Patrick’s Cathedral on May 30, 1959. He spent his early years as a priest working in Catholic Education. He served at Sacred Hearts of Jesus and Mary, Manhattan, 1959-1963; Immaculate Conception, Sleepy Hollow, 1963-1964; Immaculate Conception, Sleepy Hollow, 1963-1964; chaplain at Columbia Presbyterian Hospital, 1964-1969; Immaculate Conception, Manhattan, 1969-1981; and chaplain of the New York City Fire Department, 1981-1985. He served as pastor of St. Patrick’s Old Cathedral, Manhattan, 1985-1995, and also was administrator of Most Holy Crucifix, Manhattan, 1989-1995. He also was parochial vicar at St. Gregory the Great, Harrison, 1995-2001, and then as first parochial vicar at the Church of St. Joseph in Bronxville from 2001-2006, then senior priest there from 2006 until his retirement in 2014. He was named a monsignor in 1990.
