Reverend Monsignor Walter J. Niebrzydowski entered eternal life on July 26, 2023.

Born on November 30, 1933, Monsignor Niebrzydowski was ordained in Rome on December 20, 1958. Despite retiring, he served as temporary administrator of Guardian Angel-St. Columba Parish from August 2015. He had retired on July 1, 2008, to the residence of Our Lady of the Scapular-St. Stephen’s, Manhattan. Prior to that, Monsignor Niebrzydowski was pastor of Epiphany parish, 1996-2008. He was pastor of St. John the Martyr parish, Manhattan, 1984-1996. From 1968 to 1984, he was a faculty member at Cathedral Preparatory Seminary and also served at St. Joseph’s parish, both in Manhattan. He taught at Cathedral College, Manhattan, 1961-1967, and was chaplain at St. Vincent’s Hospital, Manhattan, 1967-1968. He served at St. Stanislaus parish, Manhattan, 1959-1961. He was named a monsignor in 1986.

In May 2008, Monsignor Niebrzydowski, a fluent Polish speaker, assisted Cardinal Edward Egan in giving the then-prefect of the Congregation for Catholic Education, Cardinal Zenon Grocholewski, a tour of The Epiphany School in Manhattan. In June 2008, Monsignor Niebrzydowski was one of five pastors awarded the Terence Cardinal Cooke Award for catechetical leadership. He celebrated his Golden Jubilee in 2009.
