Sister Angelus Healy, OP, formerly Virginia E. Healy, a member of the Sisters of St. Dominic of Blauvelt for the past 71 years, entered eternal life on December 29, 2023, in St. Martin de Porres Community. Sister Angelus was 89 years of age.

Sister Angelus was born in New York City to Martin and Margaret Green Healy on October 26, 1934. She entered the Sisters of St. Dominic on February 2, 1953, from St. Pius Parish, The Bronx. Sister received the Dominican Habit on August 25, 1953, professed her first vows on August 26, 1954, and final vows on September 6, 1957.

Sister held a Bachelor of Arts and Master of Arts in Education from the College of New Rochelle, and certification in Administration/Supervision from the State of New York.

Sister Angelus’s many years in ministry were in the care and education of youth. Sister began her ministry service in child care at Saint Dominic’s Home, Blauvelt, and adult services at Catholic Center for the Blind in Manhattan. Her subsequent ministry was in education at Our Lady of the Blessed Sacrament Academy in Goshen and Saint Pius High School and Saint Dominic School in the Bronx. Sister also served as principal at Immaculate Heart of Mary School, Mahwah, New Jersey, and as principal and superintendent at Lavelle School for the Blind in the Bronx. In 2006, Sister returned to Saint Dominic’s Convent in Blauvelt as director of resident services. In 2015, she retired from ministry due to poor health.

In addition to her religious congregation, Sister Angelus is survived by her twin sister Anna, her brother Patrick, and many nieces and nephews. Sister was predeceased by her parents, Martin and Margaret Healy, her sisters Mary and Margaret, and her brothers Daniel and Martin.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend services at:

St. Dominic Convent, 496 Western Highway, Blauvelt, N.Y.

Wake: Wednesday, January 3, 4 to 7 p.m.

Evening Prayer: January 3, 6 p.m.

Mass of Christian Burial: Thursday, January 4, 10:30 a.m.

Interment: St. Dominic’s Convent Cemetery.

Arrangements have been made by Hannemann Funeral Home in Nyack.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Sisters of St. Dominic in Blauvelt.

The January 7 game was a rematch of 2024’s archdiocesan “AA” division final, which the St. Ray’s Ravens won.
