Sister Michael Mary O.Carm. passed away peacefully at St. Patrick’s Manor, Framingham, MA on Wednesday, February 8, 2023, in the 70th year of her religious lite. Sr. Barbara Maloy was at her bedside. Several family members and Sisters, including Sr. Bernadette Mary, a lifelong friend, visited Sr. Michael Mary during the days leading up to her death.

Margaret Mary Campbell was born in New York City on June 18, 1936, the oldest of three children born to Michael and Margaret (nee Reilly) Campbell, both of whom were born in Ireland. In addition to her parents Sr. Michael Mary was pre-deceased by her brothers John and Michael.

Having entered the Congregation on February 1, 1953, Sr. Michael Mary received the Carmelite Habit on September 10, 1953, professed first vows on September 11, 1954 and professed final vows on December 8, 1958. She was missioned for short periods of time at Mount Carmel Home (NYC), Josephine Baird Home (NIC), Catholic Memorial Home Fall River,MA), Carmel Hall Detroit, Wil, and Madonna Residence (Brooklyn, NY). She was missioned the longest periods of time at St. Patrick’s Home (Bronx, NY) from 1963-1990, and Mary Manning Walsh Home (NYC) from 1990-2021. In March 2021, as her health failed, Sr. Michael Mary was transferred to the Enhanced Living Convent at Ozanam Hall (Bayside, NY) and in November 2022 she was admitted to St. Patrick’s Manor where the Sisters and staff gave her attentive and loving care during her final days.

Sr. Michael Mary had a very sociable personality and served as the Director of Volunteers at Mary Manning Walsh Home for many years and was also involved in fund-raising. Throughout her life, she reached out to the many people that crossed her path and will be very much missed by all who knew and loved her.
