On Sunday, May 4, Father Szymon Kurpios and St. John The Evangelist Church hosted the Filipino-American Association in their celebration of Flores de Mayo. Flores de Mayo, or “Flowers of May” in Spanish, is a religious celebration in the Philippines dedicated to the Blessed Virgin Mary.
The event featured Mass celebrated by Father Von Erick Maria Sandoval, O.Carm., the Parochial Vicar of Saint Simon Stock – Saint Joseph Catholic Church in the Bronx, ceremonial dancing, a procession of flowers, a crowing of the Blessed Virgin Mary, and a celebration with traditional Filipino food.
Initiated as a fundraiser for the Wounded Warrior Project, the club has evolved significantly over the past decade.
