Fr. Jacob Thumma, Pastor of St. Sylvester Parish on Staten Island, hosted the 13th Annual Family Game Day celebration; a tradition he startedwhen he became pastor 13 years ago.
Father Jacob noted that the “purpose of the event is to build our parish community and help each other become instruments of God to help our community”. Over 100 people attended and enjoyed food, games, and prizes.
Ten members of the Parish Youth Group volunteered to help run the event, and late parishioner Nelson Foucher’s daughters donated their father’s ceramics as free gifts to other parishioners in honor of their father’s memory.
As we breathe a sigh of relief that Pope Francis no longer seems in immediate danger of death, it is worth pausing to reflect on the profound effect that the pope's hospital stay had on Catholics and non-Catholics alike around the world.
