Stepinac's Jasiah Jervis named New York Gatorade Player of the Year

The Michigan State commit adds latest accolade to McDonald’s All-American and CHSAA Most Valuable Player honors
The trophy cabinet in the Jervis household is getting crowded.
Archbishop Stepinac High School senior guard Jasiah Jervis just added New York Gatorade Player of the Year for basketball to a list of accolades that has established him as one of the country’s elite prospects.
Only one player per state receives the annual honor presented by the beverage company. “At the time of his selection, the 6-foot-5, 190-pound senior guard had led the Crusaders to a 25-4 record and a berth in the PSAL vs. CHSAA Champions Challenge. Jervis averaged 17.6 points, 5.8 rebounds, 4.8 assists, and 2.0 steals through 29 games,” Gatorade said on its website.
The award also cited Jervis’ “exemplary character,” stating, “A Westchester Con Edison Scholar Athlete of the Week, Jervis has volunteered locally with Meals on Main Street and as a youth basketball coach. He has also donated his time as an Archbishop Stepinac school ambassador and with the Crusader Cares program.”

“It is a tremendous honor for a great young man who has worked so hard on and off the court! His development has been a credit to him and his family and the time he has put into his game,” Stepinac Head Basketball Coach Patrick Massaroni told The Good Newsroom by email. “A true team player with a high awarding individual honor in Gatorade Player of the Year!”
Earlier this season, after committing to play for the Michigan State Spartans at the college level in October, Jervis was named a McDonald’s All-American, along with Stepinac teammates Adonis and Darius Ratliff, and was then recognized as the Catholic High School Athletic League’s most valuable player for the “AA” boys’ basketball division.
Jervis will play his final game in a Crusaders uniform on Sunday, March 22, when Stepinac takes on Public School Athletic League champions Eagle Academy for the all-city championship, at Long Island University’s Brooklyn campus Steinberg Wellness Center, at 5 p.m. He will then join the Ratliff brothers in Phoenix, Arizona, on March 31 for the McDonald’s All-American Game.
