The Good NewsroomTM, the award-winning, digital newsroom of the Archdiocese of New York, celebrates its one-year anniversary today, November 28, 2023.

The newsroom launched with the goals of evangelization and modernizing communications through daily publishing in digital channels. The entity replaced the well-regarded Catholic New York print newspaper, which operated on a bi-weekly printing schedule.

The archdiocese decided to launch this new platform and built a technology-savvy team, including a publishing group with the organization’s first webmaster, a team of reporters, and marketing and branding consultants. The name and brand were developed to demonstrate the priority of sharing the good news about the Catholic Church and the commitment to high-quality news production. The reporting also includes negative news when needed.

Cardinal Dolan has been a supporter of the newsroom and publishes his videos almost daily on a variety of topics related to the Catholic faith to both educate and uplift viewers. “In one year, The Good Newsroom has become our primary communications channel for the archdiocese, and this is quite an achievement. While I would be the first to say I miss our print paper, it was critical that we move to a digital platform to stay with the times.”

The change allowed for videos, in addition to articles, and has been very well received. Thousands of people engage with the website, www.theGoodNewsroom.org, app, and social media channels each month. The newest channel, a weekly e-newsletter, has also received high interest since its launch in May of 2023.

“The new team has worked to integrate into our organization to tell our stories in a timely manner. We are pleased with the continued move to digital communications, as it is a more impactful and effective way of evangelizing,” said, John Cahill Chancellor of the archdiocese.

The newsroom publishes articles in English and Spanish and will work to promote its content to Hispanic audiences. Bishop Joseph Espaillat has been a key contributor to The Good Newsroom, “We’re a diverse Church, and all of our efforts to reach people need to be in the language and in the medium they prefer. I personally advocated for the app, and I’m pleased that over 10,000 people have downloaded it.”

The Catholic Channel (Channel 129) on SiriusXM radio will also broadcast the Mass, beginning at 4 a.m. EDT., with Father Dave Dwyer and Lino Rulli providing on-location coverage.
