Two Franciscan Sisters of the Renewal Make First Vows

Two Franciscan Sisters of the Renewal professed first vows Aug. 2 at Our Lady Queen of Angels Church in East Harlem. Father John Paul Ouellette, C.F.R., general servant of the Franciscan Friars of the Renewal, served as principal celebrant and homilist. Mother Clare Matthiass, C.F.R., general servant of the Franciscan Sisters of the Renewal, received the vows.

Sister Fidelis Marie Kriss, C.F.R., 27, was born in Goetzis, Austria. She graduated in 2017 from the University of Vienna with a degree in Czech philology (Bohemistics) and entered the Franciscan Sisters of the Renewal the following year. Her first assignment will be at St. Michael Convent in Atlantic City, N.J. The daughter of Wilhelm Pichler and Birgitta Kriss, she has an older brother, Simon.

Sister Solanus Mary Payne, C.F.R., 25, was raised in Troy, Mich. She graduated from the University of Detroit Mercy in Detroit with a degree in chemistry in 2019. There she served as a teaching assistant and lab technician, was active in campus ministry and participated in volunteer work throughout the city. She entered the Franciscan Sisters of the Renewal after graduation. Her first assignment will be at St. Anthony’s Convent in Drogheda, Ireland. The oldest child of Tim and Patty Payne, she has a brother and a sister.

His Eminence continued the yearly tradition of visiting those behind bars to give blessings and hope for the future.
