The March for Life is a powerful reminder of why we unite each year: to celebrate and defend the gift of life. Sister Anne Marie Elizabeth, S.V., from the Respect Life Office recently shared profound reflections on the heart of this movement, offering a fresh perspective on its enduring mission.
“We march because your life and every life is a gift. We march to proclaim the sacred dignity of every human person,” Sister Anne Marie said.
In this Jubilee Year of Hope, Pope Francis calls us to become pilgrims of hope. Sister Anne Marie highlighted the fact that the March for Life is a profound opportunity to embody that call and stressed that this is a moment to recommit ourselves to protecting the most vulnerable, loving those in need, and supporting those who seek God’s mercy and healing.
Each year, tens of thousands of pro-lifers gather in Washington, D.C., marching to Capitol Hill on the anniversary of the Supreme Court’s 1973 Roe v. Wade decision, which legalized abortion across all 50 states. This powerful event is the largest annual human rights demonstration in the world.
According to the March for Life website, in the two years since the Dobbs decision, the pro-life community has courageously stood firm against significant challenges, including extreme pro-abortion legislation and misinformation campaigns seeking to undermine the movement’s progress and values.
This year’s theme, “Life: Why We March,” according to the organizers, calls us to renew our commitment to the truth that drives the pro-life movement: every life—born and unborn, mother and child—is beautiful, dignified, and worth protecting.
