Scientists, scholars and Catholic professionals gathered at the St. Thomas Merton Institute near Columbia University for the annual Gold Mass and Lecture hosted by the Society of Catholic Scientists.

The event highlighted the harmony of faith and scientific inquiry, with this year’s featured lecture focusing on human dignity and the ethical use of artificial intelligence. Speakers reflected on how emerging technologies can serve the common good when rooted in respect for the human person.

The conversation connected to recent remarks by Pope Leo XIV in Rome this week about AI in medicine and to ongoing guidance from the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops on ethical standards for technology.

Cardinal Timothy Dolan and Father Dave Dwyer talked about Cardinal Dolan’s time in New York and the future of the show.
