Sister Eileen entered eternal life on May 2, 2026. She made her final profession of vows with the Dominican Sisters Congregation of Hope in 1963, before transferring to the Dominican Sisters, Congregation of St. Rose, in 2022
Sr. Mary Eileen Duffy entered eternal life peacefully on May 2, 2026, at 10:55 a.m. at Rosary Hill Home in Hawthorne.
She was born on January 28, 1930, to Edward P. Duffy and Eleanor (Powers) Duffy. She is survived by a niece. She entered the Dominican Sisters Congregation of Hope in Newburgh on September 8, 1958. She made her final profession of vows on August 21, 1963, and served in many capacities for the Congregation.
From 1985 onward, Sister Eileen served as a pastoral care assistant at Sacred Heart Parish in Newburgh. She visits parishioners in several nursing facilities and hospitals and makes home visits. Sister taught elementary school at Holy Family School in New Rochelle (1962-65), Bishop Dunn Memorial School in Newburgh (1965-69), and at St. Peter School in Rosendale (1969-71), where she was also principal. She served in the school office of the Archdiocese of New York for one year (1971-72). She was a pastoral minister at Holy Family Parish in New Rochelle (1974-76) before taking on her ministry at Sacred Heart Parish.
In January 2022, she requested a transfer to the Dominican Sisters, Congregation of St. Rose of Lima in Hawthorne, and professed her final vows after three years of probation on February 2, 2025.
She will be received at the Chapel of Our Lady of the Rosary at Rosary Hill Home in Hawthorne on Monday, May 4, at 3:30 p.m. A wake will follow until 8 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:15 a.m. on Tuesday, May 5, and interment will be at Gate of Heaven Cemetery in Hawthorne.
